Software Engineering career pathways

Design, build, test and ship software — full-stack or specialised — working effectively with AI coding tools, APIs and sound system design.

AI coding assistants have changed how software is written, but not what employers need: people who understand problems, design sensible systems, review code critically and ship reliably. Domain knowledge from a previous career is a genuine advantage when building software for that domain.

Pathways in Software Engineering

Full-Stack Software Engineering

Open now

Build and ship web applications end to end with TypeScript, APIs, databases and AI coding tools.

Who it suits
Analysts, technical support, QA testers, teachers and self-taught coders ready to build production software.
Roles to aim for
Junior Software Engineer, Full-Stack Developer, Web Developer, Graduate Engineer (career changer)
Core skills you build
JavaScript & TypeScript, Front-end frameworks (React), APIs & HTTP, SQL, Automated testing, Git & version control
Time
About 40 hours of guided work plus projects. Most people finish in 8 to 12 weeks alongside a job.

Two realistic projects for your Career Proof: self-checked on Sprint, mentor-reviewed on Accelerate. Full project briefs and the week-by-week plan come in your pathway brochure.

Questions about Software Engineering

Other career families:

Is it still worth moving into software engineering now AI can write code?

AI tools make experienced engineers faster, and they raise the bar for what juniors are expected to deliver. Employers still need people who can specify, review, test and maintain software. The pathway teaches you to use AI tools as part of that work, not instead of understanding it.

Which language will I learn?

The full-stack pathway uses TypeScript across front end and back end, with SQL for data. The backend pathway adds Python. The concepts transfer to other languages.

How is this different from a bootcamp?

SprintPivot is built around evidence: each stage produces a reviewed project, mentor feedback and a portfolio entry that employers can inspect, and it is designed to fit alongside a current job.

Do I need to know how to code already?

No, but you should expect the first weeks to be demanding. Many successful career changers start by automating something in their current role.
