Data career pathways

Turn raw data into decisions: SQL, analysis, statistics, visualisation, pipelines and the judgement to interpret results honestly.

Every AI system depends on good data, and every organisation needs people who can ask the right question of it. Career changers often bring the most valuable part already: knowing which questions matter to the business.

Can I become a data analyst without a maths degree?

Yes. Most analyst roles need confident SQL, spreadsheet and visualisation skills, sound statistical reasoning and clear communication. The pathway teaches the statistics you need through applied problems.

Should I learn Python or SQL first?

SQL first. It appears in most UK analyst job adverts and gives you results quickly. Python follows once you are comfortable querying and shaping data.

What does data literacy mean for my current job?

Reading charts critically, questioning how a number was produced and making decisions with appropriate uncertainty. The Data Analytics pathway builds this in from the first week, so it is useful even before you change role.

What is the difference between a data analyst and a data engineer?

Analysts answer questions with data. Engineers build and maintain the pipelines and models that make trustworthy data available in the first place.
